Taylor & Francis Group, a leading international academic publishing company, has an exciting new opportunity for an Australian-based Commissioning Editor to work on our Humanities and Media Arts program. The role offers the opportunity to work across a range of Humanities disciplines, with a particular emphasis on Media and Communication, and involves working on a variety of text types, including handbooks, textbooks, and professional titles.

What you'll be doing:

  • Commissioning, acquiring, and publishing quality products to agreed revenue, profitability, and growth targets
  • Facilitating, developing, and implementing revenue growth on the list level
  • Working closely with the Editorial Director and Publishers on managing the overall list and on strategic issues
  • Acting as a product champion with internal stakeholders to ensure buy-in and support for the list across other departments
  • Being an ambassador for Taylor & Francis and promoting the business to external stakeholders including academic authors, editors, etc.
  • Contributing ideas towards global publishing strategies
  • Traveling to academic and industry conferences, campus calls, as needed

What we're looking for:

  • Experience managing the process of commissioning, developing, publishing, and selling content
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate information clearly, sensitively, and effectively
  • Experience working with a variety of content across multiple formats and markets
  • A thorough understanding of current market trends and competitor activity to inform decisions on product and concept development
  • A commercial mindset and awareness of customer needs for both academic and professional publishing
  • Experience in financial and budgetary planning and reporting
  • Strong ability to influence, negotiate, and persuade others
  • An ability to work within a team, network, and build relationships both internally and externally
