Reporting to the Global Shared Services Director, the Global SSO Lead Accountant, will be an accounting professional responsible for balance sheet integrity accuracy and compliance across Informa’s Shared Service Centres.

Specific responsibilities will include;

  • Overall responsibility for the quality of the Informa balance sheet (to the extent it falls within responsibility of shared services organisation)
  • Reviewing the monthly balance sheet for overall integrity and completeness.  This will include quantitative tests (e.g. provision levels vs tolerances, intangibles, movements) and quality tests (e.g. balance sheet reconciliation completeness and quality)
  • Identifying and testing areas for investigation and working with SSO to review any specific areas, highlight and mitigate risks.
  • Holding monthly/quarterly reviews with SSO R2R teams / Controllers to test robustness of accounting controls, quality of close, completeness of backup, etc.
  • Incumbent will also work with R2R GPO and Group Finance to bring better quality of balance sheet alignment at entity and divisional level, specifically to allow greater understanding and accountability for the divisional finance teams.
  • You will be responsible for offering support & guidance to colleagues on difficult issues as an expert within SSC Accounting. You will also be considered as a specialist responsible for the more complex, higher accounting skill duties.
  • You will work closely with the business partners and Group Finance to understand their individual requirements.
  • You will be responsible for ensuring a high value, consistent accounting service is provided across the accounting teams.
  • You will be expected to ensure the annual statutory audit process and ensure all MDM/GPO processes are followed.
  • Ensure Balance Sheet reconciliations are in accordance with Balance Sheet Integrity guidelines
  • To oversee acquisition integration/due diligence
  • Working with internal and external auditors
  • Liaise with the Head of Global Tax & Compliance as required

Skills & Abilities

The ideal candidate will be:

  • Experience of working in a multinational and multi-divisional business, with multiple ERP systems and ledgers.
  • Very strong focus on accounting accuracy, integrity and completeness.
  • Ability to work highly effectively across all locations, and levels: to be able to collaborate, coach, challenge and support SSO accounting teams.
  • Experience of close liaison with external and internal audit teams and senior management. 
  • A strong and proven business communicator, able to use multiple channels of communications and to many levels of user / stakeholder, from senior management to local agent/operator.
  • Have a strong process focus, able to understand the various finance processes to a reasonably technical level in order to craft messages and materials correctly and effectively.
  • Experience working in one or more of the process areas.
  • Act with integrity, tact and diplomacy to formulate trust at all levels
  • Excellent, proactive communication skills
  • Wide variety of communication styles and the ability to understand your audience and tailor your style accordingly

Knowledge & Qualifications

  • A qualified accounting professional (ACA, CIMA, ACCA) with specific experience in balance sheet control and integrity.
  • Knowledge of working in global business environment with sound understanding of global process and transactional flows
  • A track record of continuous professional and management development to personal skillset
  • Knowledge of dealing with mergers, acquisitions and disposals
  • Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma or other continuous improvement methodologies preferred
