The position of Maritime Analytics Manager is a high profile role that forms part of the Content Leadership team at Lloyd’s List Intelligence, the global leaders in geo-spatial Big Data vessel tracking and analysis of 80% of global trade on more than 400,000 ships. This role is responsible for maintaining high quality vessel data and tracking information while driving continual enhancements to large datasets to improve our customer experience and support revenue growth.

 

Lloyd’s List Intelligence has a highly ambitious content and product Roadmap for 2020 that the content leadership team will be targeted to deliver. This role leads and builds in-house and outsourced teams that procure, research and clean existing data sets such as vessel port callings, terrestrial and satellite AIS and port geo-fencing. Within the remit of this role, there is a substantial importance on exploring ways to improve efficiency and processes to increase the timeliness, coverage and accuracy of data delivered to customers as well as the most cost-effective methods to procure data. To ensure that optimum data volumes and quality is delivered to best support the customer, the successful candidate will need to liaise closely with Product and Sales teams, and attend client visits/calls as necessary.

 

This position presents an exciting opportunity for a results-driven individual with some big data experience looking to expand on existing management experience, learn more about commercial decision-making and gain a deeper understanding of customer-led product development. Maritime knowledge and vessel tracking experience would be a distinct advantage but much more important is a passion for large scale data management, thriving on continual change and a desire to motivate a team to exceed expectations.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage multi-location teams to deliver high performance, motivate and lead career development opportunities
  • Monitor data quality and present Senior Management with cost-effective opportunities to expand and improve data that deliver customers increasingly timely and comprehensive data
  • Ensure in-house and outsourced teams are delivering value through measurable KPIs and assessing opportunities to improve processes and efficiency 
  • Keep abreast of existing and new competitor advances in the maritime data market and contribute to actions that Lloyd’s List Intelligence can use to articulate and develop its differentiators
  • Ensure all key supplier relationships managed by the team are governed by up-to-date agreements that are approved with the Informa Intelligence legal team
  • Monitor inbound analyst queries from customers, ensuring they are handled in an efficient and timely manner and escalate challenges or concerns to senior management
  • Support timely delivery of existing projects, such as the Lloyd’s List Intelligence AIS Expansion project and Port Geo-Fencing project
  • Deliver business justifications and project manage all improvements through to completion
  • Implement and drive projects to scheduled timelines once approved
  • Attend client visits as a subject matter expert alongside sales and product management
  • Support the creation of documentation for sales proposals and tender processes
  • Ensure teams understand the strategy and policies of the wider business

 

REQUIREMENTS FOR INTERESTED APPLICANTS

  • Excellent written and spoken English language skills
  • Excellent people management skills
    • Experience of managing multi-location teams would be advantageous
  • Excellent Software skills – Advanced level Excel, Word, PowerPoint are a pre-requisite
    • An understanding of SQL, Data Management is also necessary
    • Other software / program knowledge in data visualisation would be advantageous
  • Innovative and dynamic approach to problem-solving
    • Proven success in implementing data, research and content improvements
  • Good project management skills – being able to articulate business justifications, build timelines and risks.
  • Excellent stakeholder management is a must in this role, across all areas of the business
  • Confident presentation skills for internal and external audiences, including the Maritime Leadership team.
  • Experience of managing a cost-base to budget would be advantageous
    • Proven success in negotiating with suppliers
    • Experience of preparing procurement tenders and assessing applicants to award contracts
  • Experience of supporting project planning
    • Demonstrable experience of project management would be advantageous
  • Worked with large datasets and has experience of managing a data team
  • Experience within the maritime information market is highly desirable
    • Operational and commercial understanding of AIS and the competitive market would be advantageous
    • Operational and commercial understanding of an intelligence business will be a distinct advantage
  • Experience of managing an outsourced process would be advantageous
  • Experience of resolving complex customer queries
